Verizon has announced the official availability of the long awaited LTE upgrade for owners of the Motorola Xoom 4G Android tablet almost 4 months after it was originally slated for Summer availability due to unspecified delays. The program consists of sending the unit to Verizon in order to have the LTE radio module installed in the tablet with a turnaround time of one week at no additional charge and no changes in data plans required.
Additionally, Verizon will relaunch the Motorola Xoom 4G on October 13th with the LTE radio preinstalled for $499.99 after a new 2 year agreement. The Xoom tablet features a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 10.1-inch capacitive display at 1280×800 resolution, a 5.0 megapixel camera, 720p video recording and 1080p video playback, 802.11n WiFi radio, Bluetooth 2.1, and 32GB of on-board storage.
