Verizon internal documentation has surfaced confirming that the first generation Motorola Droid and the three month old Motorola Devour are now on the end of life cycle with the carrier and are close to being discontinued completely. The Droid will be replaced by the Droid 2 next month, and the Devour will likely be replaced by the recently revealed WX445 entry-level Android device running Android 2.1.
This also places the possibility of the Devour being upgraded in doubt as recent Motorola documentation confirmed that there was no firm date for the Devour to be upgraded to Android 2.1, with the device being listed as “under evaluationâ€.
Other devices of note now on the end of life cycle include the Nokia Twist, BlackBerry 9630 Tour models with and without camera along with the Samsung Knack, Smooth, Intensity and Windows Mobile-powered Saga smart device, launched in 2008.
