    Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T Launch Isis Mobile Payment Venture

    A new mobile payment initiative formed by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizonhas been formed with Discover Financial Services under the brand name Isis.  The venture will utilize the payment network provided by Discover to process payments via NFC or near field communication technology while the carriers will offer compatible handsets. The venture will be based in New York, with Michael Abbott, formerly of GE Capital serving as CEO.

    The Isis venture is expected to begin operations in select regions over the next 18 months, with the aim of building a nationwide NFC based payment network.  The unannounced Samsung Nexus S will be the first handset to support Isis when it is launched via T-Mobile before the end of the year as Android Gingerbread will offer support for NFC hardware.

      No, the joint venture includes Verizon but NOT Sprint.

      Sprint has been developing their own credit card initiative, announced at Sprint’s Open Developers Conference.

      It is presumed their NFC platform will be more “open” than just working with Discover accounts.

      ISIS is really only good for those in love… or in bed… with Discover.
