Verizon today announced that they plan to launch a new wireless network specifically for broadcasting live television. Using MediaFLO technology developed through Qualcomm’s reserach into Flash-OFDM technologies. Unlike more advanced MediaFLO plans envisioned by Qualcomm, Verizon will deploy MediaFLO on their standard EV-DO network. By using MediaFLO over EV-DO in broadcast form, Verizon hopes to reduce network impact of Live TV, as well as offering services to compete with Sprint’s new TV partnerships with cable TV providers.
