Following up, a report has stated that all currently available Android devices in the U.S. will be upgraded to Android 2.1 this year, including the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G over the air.
The report goes on to state that in order for the upgrades to be installed over the air, certain devices (such as the G1) will need to be wiped before being upgraded. Android 2.1 will add support for Google Maps with Navigation and Google Earth along with other enhancements except those from those specific to the Nexus One.
PhoneNews.com cannot independently confirm the report linked above.
This follows Google’s recent statements regarding the growing fragmentation of the Android platform across manufacturers and carriers, with this latest move being seen as a way to bring every device inline with the latest version of Android, despite concerns regarding hardware limitations on older devices.
