Daily deal site BensOutlet.com is offering the Motorola Atrix 4G lapdock for $39.99. Shipping is free.
The Atrix Lapdock has plummeted in value ever since Motorola pulled the promised Android 4.0 upgrade for the device. The upgrade to Android 4.0 would have included Webtop 3.0, that enables Android applications to be used with the lapdock devices.
We previously broke the news that Motorola had abandoned Webtop as a platform, and that future smartphones from Motorola would be be built to be compatible with the lapdock accessories.
However, the Lapdock as a device is quite useful for alternative means. For example, with the right cables, it can be used as an HDMI display, and keyboard+trackpad for a broad range of devices. With a micro-HDMI female-to-HDMI-male cable, you can use it as a second display for your laptop, for example.
ALso, with a little bit of dremeling, the Atrix lapdock can be used with other Motorola Webtop-enabled phones. The Atrix 4G had reversed ports, that require the lapdock to be modified to work with other Motorola Webtop smartphones. However, the Atrix lapdock arguably is superior to the Lapdock 100, with a better display, and the ability to disable the trackpad (for example, when using a mouse).
But, act quickly, we expect this to sell out within the next few hours.
Update: The deal is back at BensOutlet, but the price has been raised to $49.99
