Best Buy is offering the Nikon J1 mirrorless digital camera, as a refurbished offering in white for $299.99 shipped.
The new J1 still retails at most retailers for hundreds more new, though it has been made obsolete by the newer J2. The J1 is Nikon’s first mirrorless digital camera, offering near Digital SLR (DSLR) quality photography, while maintaining a jacket-pocketable profile.
The J1 is refurbished, and carries Nikon’s standard 90 day refurbished limited warranty. Best Buy does not charge a restocking fee on returns, and you can return the item in-store. This deal is only available online however, though standard shipping is free.
Nikon’s J1 differs from its V1 more-professional camera, in that it lacks a microphone jack and accessory sled. However, unlike the V1, the J1 includes a built-in flash. We strongly suggest double checking yours for available firmware updates when you receive it, as they dramatically improve the automatic shooting quality of the camera.
On the weekends, PhoneNews.com goes all-tech with its deal coverage. Enjoy!
Update: Sears has one-upped Best Buy by offering this camera for $249.99 in refurbished trim. However, Sears charges a 15% restocking fee on opened returns. So, we suggest the following:
1) Order the J1 from Best Buy.
2) Call 888-BEST-BUY and price match the Sears page. It’s not clear if Best Buy will honor the price match, but may based on their new Internet price matching policies. You can always cancel the order if they refuse to honor the price match.
3) You’ll now have a J1 for $249.99 with no restocking fee.
