HTC has announced the addition of more supported Android smartphones that will receive updates to Android Ice Cream Sandwich this year following its initial confirmation of the update rollout last week which included recently released models in the Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G, EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, Incredible S, Desire S, and Desire HD.
Additional models now confirmed to receive the update include previous Verizon Wireless phones, which include the Rhyme, Thunderbolt, and Droid Incredible 2, which are or were previously sold by the carrier.
With the confirmation of the aforementioned older models, HTC may have discovered how to apply the update despite the underlying hardware being one full generation removed from current hardware with less memory and processing power available in comparison. Should the updates be feature complete, this also means that Android 4.0 is continually being refined by manufacturers in order to remain compatible across hardware profiles.
HTC still has yet to issue a statement on the status of Android 4.0 updates for its current tablet lineup which include the AT&T Jetstream and the Flyer/Evo View 4G variants which are running versions of the previous version of Android in Honeycomb.
