Thanks to the result of a recent developer bounty, Mac users can finally use RIM BlackBerry devices as a modem.
The product, known as Pulse, will not bypass phone-as-modem plan requirements (such as on the BlackBerry 8703e or 7130e on Sprint and Verizon). The software is essentially a Bluetooth modem script for Mac OS X, similar to PCS Intel’s EV-DO Modem Script, with Bluetooth profile support also added on the BlackBerry’s end. USB support has also been promised, for taking advantage of EV-DO connections at their full speed.
The software will be made available for $49.99, but pre-ordering now will lock in a 50% discount, bringing the price to $24.99. We will report when it is released.
