In a message posted on the official support forums, Motorola has warned users of the Droid X not to load leaked versions of the Android 2.2 update circulating around the mod community, at the risk of losing the capability of updating to the official build expected to be released this month:
WARNING: Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the Internets. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version.
This is in stark contrast to HTC’s behavior regarding leaked Android builds, as it previously provided update patches for HTC EVO 4G users that updated to leaked Android 2.2 builds.
As expected, many in the Android mod community are upset by the development as Motorola seeks to court corporate Android customers at the expense of alienating the enthusiast community that evangelized the manufacturer’s first Android efforts, starting with the first Motorola Droid.
