One tech support rep threw out a guess and now its being taken as a fact? Really? Hardly concrete evidence.

Once someone at any level of Sprint makes a statement, we can then use that to force Sprint to clarify and give a firmer date than what was said.

As stated in the article, we have emails in to Sprint and will report back when they respond. Clearly, it’s a developing story; the important bit is that Gingerbread is likely heading to the Optimus line.

I am glad this the Optimus S is getting the update. I downgraded from an Evo to an Optimus because the Evo has way too many bugs and horrible battery life. The Optimus has been great.

Yea, I “downgraded” from the Sanyo Zio to the LG Optimus just this past week. Oh my goodness, what a POS the Sanyo Zio was. Just as Apple’s antenna engineers caught grief, Sanyo’s touchscreen engineers should catch grief.

If the Optimus gets 2.3, that’s icing on the cake!

I wonder if the Virgin version will come out the gate with 2.3 or atleast be updated soon after release.

LG confirmed themselves a few weeks ago that Gingerbread is coming to the Optimus line ( The question is when, and when for each carrier.

But after my experience waiting for the Eclair update on the HTC Hero, I’m not holding my breath waiting for the upgrade on the Optimus S.

Cecil, it’s always important to have carrier confirmation. For example, the GSM HTC Hero (myTouch 3G) got Android 2.2, where as the CDMA HTC Hero variants (Droid Eris on VZW and Hero on Sprint) were left behind at Android 2.1.

    Hence, why this is newsworthy.

I seriously doubt Optimus V will launch with Android 2.3. I’d be pleasantly surprised, but don’t bet on it.

You’re right, carrier information is crucial. Although LG said it would happen soon, Sprint may add a few more hoops to jump through.

But correct me if I’m wrong, the GSM HTC Hero is a different phone altogether from the myTouch 3G (aka HTC Magic). Different cameras, one with HTC Sense and one without, and other differences throughout. I don’t think the GSM HTC Hero got Froyo (on par with the CDMA version of the Hero), whereas the HTC Magic did get the upgrade.
