GoSmart Mobile dealers have confirmed to Prepaid PhoneNews that beginning next month, the current double-data promotion from the holiday season will be modified to include substantially more data on its slate of three service plans.
However, instead of simply doubling monthly data allotments, the value oriented T-Mobile brand has decided to take aim at AT&T’s Cricket and Sprint’s Prepaid Group by offering much more data for $5-$10 less than the aforementioned brands per month without auto-pay requirements. The newly updated plans can be found below.
|Go Smart||Monthly Rate||Voice||SMS||MMS||Data|
|Unlimited Voice/Messaging||$25||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||Facebook/FB Messenger access only at LTE speeds if/when available|
|Unlimited Voice, Messaging & Web||$35||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||First 2.5GB at HSPA+ speeds (throttled to 128 Kbps after)|
|Unlimited Voice, Messaging & Web||$40||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||First 5GB at HSPA+ speeds (throttled to 128 Kbps after)|
|Unlimited Voice, Messaging & Web||$45||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||First 10GB at HSPA+ speeds (throttled to 128 Kbps after)|
As can be seen above, T-Mobile is bringing the cost of 2.5GB of data on prepaid GSM all the way down to $35, where Virgin Mobile previously led the industry before being outpaced by sibling brand Boost and AT&T’s Cricket.
It should be noted that GoSmart Mobile is limited to T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network and speeds now range from 8-20Mbps depending on phone and coverage area, as the previous cap on speeds has been removed. Facebook and Facebook Messenger are otherwise able to access the LTE network at full speeds if available on the device without counting against monthly data usage.
The updated plans will go into effect on February 2nd, and follow the recent launch of T-Mobile’s own low-cost budget-oriented prepaid monthly plans in Simply Prepaid that start at $40 monthly and 1GB of data up to $60 monthly with 5GB of data and throttled LTE speeds, along with less features compared to the more expensive Simple Choice Prepaid/No-Contract plans. GoSmart sells SIMs online and through a combination of independent third party dealers as well as “Simply Prepaid” exclusive dealers.
Update: The $35 2.5GB plan is now available ahead of its Monday launch, while the $40 and $45 plan updates will go into effect next Monday as those plans are still under their previous double data promotional rates of 6 and 10GB.
